Elimination Communication

gdf-new-cover-front-8.5-x-11-600pxThis is the book I used to learn all about infant elimination communication.  I had heard about this before, but didn’t know enough about it to seriously consider it when we were planning for our baby’s arrival.  I was so surprised to learn that babies actually already have a built-in instinct that helps them and their caregivers easily potty them without relying completely on the use of diapers!!  I wanted this for me and my baby because I was tired of changing diapers every 15-20 minutes, and I already was not a fan of using disposable diapers for so many reasons.  So, when my baby was four months old, I made the very important decision to simply try this idea, and I’m so glad and even more fulfilled as a parent than I thought I could be.  My baby regularly pees and poos in a sink or other receptacle, and I have learned to pick up on my baby’s cues for elimination.  We even co-sleep with him in no diapers or anything sometimes and he doesn’t wet the bed because I get up and take him to the potty, when I need to go in the middle of the night.  I am also extremely happy I won’t be potty training a much older child who is much harder to chase around.

I cannot say enough good things about ‘EC’ and I tell everyone I can about it, and yes I feel awkward sometimes, but then I just try not to care too much, because I am taking care of my baby’s needs in the best way I know how.

And yes, he still wears diaper back-ups most of the time, and still has some accidents, but he knows what and where the goals are.
